Jeff's Gourmet Kosher Sausage Factory ...

Have you ever had a buddy tell you... "Ah yeah, dude, you've got to hit up this place. It's so good... such a hole in the wall." Well ... they were probably talking about La Posta, where you stick your head into a 8 x 12 inch window to throw down your order... and momentarily hyperventilate as you get a whiff of the deliciousness about to come your way. Mike Z., the inspiration for this week's Grub journey, gave us the secret to happiness in San Diego Grubbing... La Posta's California burrito. You might have never heard of a California burrito... if you live north of the San Diego county line ... or if you hate life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. First, let us break down this burrito that blankets the SD grub-side, but is the elusive unicorn of the LA burrito-scene. Start with some steak, throw in a little guacamole for good measure, smother it all in cheese, and add the secret weapon ... good-old-fashioned french fries. And boom goes the dynamite. The Good Grub has had its fare share of California burritos, but La Posta takes the crown... hands down. Simply put (or with more detail then you've ever wanted) in La Posta's California burrito, they kick it up a notch with some ridiculously flavorful-n-tender marinated carne asada, a heaping helping of freshly-made guacamole, tons of half-melted cheese (which we like better, because we all know there's a potent flavor-punch that fully-melted cheese just can't comprehend), and some of the best, simple, hot and crunchy french fries you'll ever find... inside or outside of a burrito. The french fries are a key piece to this puzzle that takes an amazing meal and kicks it into overdrive. After La Posta, you're going to be at some fast food joint, and when the cashier asks, "Do you want fries with that?"... You'll have to resist blurting out, "Yeah, and a burrito to go with it!" Even their tortillas are perfect... the kind where it's thick and chewy, yet thin enough that you can see the green from the guacamole threatening to break free at any moment. Douse the whole thing in their tangy, hot, red salsa and let the magical grub ferries serenade the rest of your meal. Mike Z. tells us the quesadilla especial is also pretty money, and I'm sure there are countless other Grub-worthy items on their menu... but for us, this is one of those places that we just can't deviate from our standard California burrito order, because to miss the opportunity at something this good is technically illegal... statute 105.6.3c... or something like that. So take a stroll, or ride your bike, or take a drive, or hitch-hike, or commandeer an Apache Helicopter... but either way, head on down to La Posta for a California burrito ... and some serious Grub Especial.
