The Good Grub

Jake's Roadhouse
Americans love themselves some summer BBQ.  And why shouldn't they?  You've got the sun baking down on you from a rich blue sky ... little cousins hitting the slip-n-slide like it was the secret to happiness ... But most of all, you've got your pops sipping on a brew and grilling up a slab of ribs and a couple of hot links ... But man, if only your dad was Jake.  Because the grill masters at Jake's Roadhouse are taking the steady BBQ tradition and bringing to the party a bunch of top-cut meats bathed in a healthy layer of savory-n-spicy BBQ sauce.  They've got a traditional restaurant on the main road in Monrovia, but every Friday night in the summer time ... and the living's easy ... they've also got a massive grilling tent set up smack-dab-in-the-middle of the town's farmers' market.  Staring at the mouth-watering menu of tri-tip, spare ribs, BBQ chicken, and a variety of different kinds of sausages, we're not going to lie ... we got a little overwhelmed with excitement.  Finally, after a few flip-flops, we committed to the spare ribs and spicy Texas sausage BBQ combo plate, known simply as ... "The Cowboy Combo."  Once you make your selection, If they ask you if you want BBQ sauce on your sausage, don't hesitate to shout ... "Do your worst!"  Just be careful, because The Good Grub likes himself some spice and Jake didn't disappoint.  And boy... let's talk about that sausage ... If Michael Jordan thinks Ballpark Franks plump when you cook 'em, I don't know what you have to do to get a sausage this massive and delicious ... but Jake does, and that's good enough for us.  We got our food along with our Grub-mates Stefan and Emily L. and really rocked the backyard BBQ feel as we found a nice patch of grass to enjoy our magical-plates-o-Grub.  At this point, let me warn you that sitting cross-legged for The Good Grub is like an elephant doing yoga ... an elephant with arthritis, that is ...  and it's not happening easily.  But for this amazing combination of tender fall-of-the-bone spare ribs and pop-with-flavor-as-you-bite-'em sausages, I would've been happy doing a handstand for the entire Grub-session.  So as the summer continues to heat up, take your journey to the smoke stacks coming off the grill at Jake's Roadhouse. Because where there's smoke, there's BBQ, and at Jake's ... where's there's BBQ, there's GRUB!

Jake's is my favorite BBQ for miles around. I've traveled far and wide throughout the west, and I always come back to Jake's!
