The Good Grub

Good Grub!
What makes Italia Deli the kind of place that... when it crosses your mind there's no turning back until you get that one-of-a-kind, willing-to-leave-your-own-family-for-it, steal-a-little-girl's-bicycle-if-you're-not-close-enough-to-run-to-it, Italian sub?

For us, maybe it's the nostalgia factor? ... The Good Grub has been coming here ever since it was a Lil' Grub. Maybe it's the mob mentality? ... there's nobody that knows Italia that doesn't love Italia. Maybe it's the fact that they won the lottery back in the 90's? ... Ya that's true, but no, they don't slip you a $20 when you walk in the door. When you get down to it, after grueling hours of research and countless mouth-watering subs, it really boils down to one thing... this place just has some seriously Good Grub.

Get whatever you want off the menu. You'd probably have a better chance of playing a little one-on-one with Obama than finding something you didn't like, but for The Good Grub it only comes down to a couple of questions: Meatball & sausage combo or turkey? ... Hard or soft roll? ... Small or large sub?.  With the turkey sub they give you a couple fists full of fresh, thinly sliced turkey, loaded up with all the fixings, and showered with their own tongue-tantalizing Italian dressing. On the other hand, with the meatball & sausage Combo (which we're pretty sure isn't on the menu, but ask for it anyways) you get loads of hot, melt-in-your-mouth meatballs and sausage links dancing the two-step underneath a "layer-of-flavor" made of a blend of rich marinara and grated Italian cheeses (we're guessing parmigiano reggiano, romano, and mozzarella at least but only mama Italia knows for sure). Take your sandwich choice and match it up with a hard roll (think crunchy, golden goodness) or a soft roll (think warm, soak-up-the-juices amazingness). Then comes the size, small or large? If you need an explanation of this... well... you're wonderful the way you are. But seriously, take any of these beautiful combinations, match them up with how you feel at the moment, and you can't go wrong. Come to think of it, you could just roll in with some sort of "Italia Deli mood ring" ... orange means "I'm starving" ... go for the large meatball & sausage combo on a hard roll... green means "I'm exhausted" ... go for the small turkey on a soft roll. Finally something worthy of The Good Grub submitting to the "Invention Submission Corporation"... please tell us that you watch loads of day time television, basically anything on the "Game Show Network", and/or 2:00 AM re-runs of Harry and the Hendersons (the link is in some other language, but a thousand times more entertaining).

Okay, so maybe the mood ring idea wouldn't work, but at least it would help you decide on which crazy Good Grub sandwich to get. It can be hard at times to decide between lose-your-mind incredible and want-to-sing-love-songs-to-it unbelievable. So grab a number when you come in, walk up and down the crowded aisles of Italian treats (you'd think the last golden ticket was hidden somewhere in the rigatoni), stop off in the back to grab a Dr. Brown's Black Cherry soda and brace yourself for some down-right, no-bones-about-it, Good Grub.

layin' the nostalgia on thick! I relocated to the Bay Area and MISS these sandwiches. I'm a turkey on hard roll kinda girl all the way.
