Who doesn't love a good omelette? It's one of the ultimate build your own delicacies. So when my GC GRUB buddies demanded that I hit up Harold's House of Omelettes out in the great land of the Conejo Valley ... where I was born and raised (am I really the only one who just broke out into an impromptu Fresh Prince of Bell Air rap? Fine, maybe I was) ... who was I to turn down the journey?
And so we headed down to the unassuming, old-school-to-the-max, omelette house on T.O. boulevard, with our menu choices strategically mapped out during the car ride. The two "don't-miss-it-or-I'll-punch-you-in-the-face" menu delights were a stack of Harold's giant pancakes and, of course, one of his beloved omelettes.
Let's start with the pancakes ... did I mention they were giant? Like "Roald Dahl's BFG" giant ... like "cut-a-whole-in-the-middle-so-the-syrup-won't-overflow-onto-the-table" giant ... like ... okay, you get the point, they're big freaking pancakes. Despite their grandeur of well-endowedness, these guys are light and fluffy and just asking to be bathed in sweet, sweet maple syrup. Make sure you come with a buddy ... or four ... because while you might be coming for the omelettes, you can't miss out on some pancakey-goodness.
And onto the omelette ... nay, omelettes. Because it's not like Harold is going to build his house with just an omelette. No, he's going to overload the menu with choices. I'm talking about the chili omelette with homemade chili, beans, cheese, and onions ... the pizza omelette with peperonni, olives, cheese, and pizza sauce ... and if you dare ... the tamale omelette. And boys and girls, did you really think The Good Grub wasn't up for a dare? So of course we went for it ... a fluffy pillow of golden eggs, cheese, salsa, onions, and olives ... oh yeah, and a giant pork tamale stuffed in the center. Oh my ... why haven't I been stuffing things with tamales all my life?! Thanksgiving dinner ... don't worry mom, I've got this one ... BAM tamales in the turkey! Easter egg hunt ... BAM, eggs filled with tamales!
Splashing on that delicious Tapatio, it was like digging for hidden treasure and finding a gold-mine of mouth watering flavors and textures. It was definitely a Good GRUB patented freak-out-fest. With a big smile on my face, and both hands on my belly, I say thank you to the heavens .. for this journey has brought me so much joy, the company of great friends and, of course, heaping helpings of GOOD GRUB.
