![]() Behold, Eastside Market and Italian Deli ... The home of some mighty fine Italian sandwiches and the reason why the truth is "there ain't no party like an east coast party, cause an east coast party don't stop." After my meal at Eastside I couldn't forgive myself for it being my first adventure to this LA institution, but alas, this is what it's all about ... another Good Grub miracle! The place is the definition of old-school GRUB. It sits on an unassuming block, next to Chinatown and Dodger Stadium, with a mural declaring it's glory painted literally right over the window of one of the apartments above the market. Inside there's a never-ending line of hungry and excited Grub-patrons getting their fix from a crew of old-school Italian sandwich masters. The artisan who made my unbelievable order was named Rocko ... I couldn't have made that up if I tried. For this journey, I brought along my buddies Paul R. and Andrew K. because we all know the real reason why you have friends in life ... when too many things sound good on one menu. I'm not a pig or anything, I mean ... is it so bad that when I see Italian roast beef, meatballs, and sausages on a menu I can't stop at just one? I get to the point where my mouth is flooding with anticipation, and with urgent fervor I draw up a game plan ... You-order-this and I'll-order-that and well do a little Grub-commerce fifty-fifty-split ... and break! And that's exactly what we did, and it was glorious! Act 1 ... I'm talking about rich, thick cut Italian Roast Beef piled high on a flaky, yet soft-enough-to-soak-up-the-juices Italian roll. Act 2 ... The greatest thing since sliced bread ... the meatball and sausage combo sandwich. Because when you mix together juicy, pop-in-your-mouth grilled sausages and tender, packed-full-of-flavor meatballs on one roll, it's not just an addition of two amazing flavors ... we're talking about GRUB to the GRUB-th degree ... or something like that. We even got a plate of just meatballs and sausages to just bask in the glory of the Italian meat smothered in mozzarella. Look pretty good? Sound pretty good? ... you have no idea. After this place, I walked out more excited than the guy who saw the double rainbow. Because there's no competition for some better-than-you-could-ever-even-hope-to-make-it-on-your-own GOOD GRUB.
