The Good Grub

Cafe Rio
Let us ask you a question ... How do you feel about handmade tortillas?  The kind that melt away deep into the depths of your taste buds.  The kind that you swear is a blend of flour and magic pixie dust.  Yeah ... we prefer the plastic-bagged, tastes-like-a-carpet-sample version too.  Feeling angry?  Good. Feeling outraged?  Better, because this was a test ... and you passed.  Your reward?  Screw gold stars, you get rich, savory, tasty Mexican goodness from Cafe Rio ... the love child of our Grub-buddies Hayward And Natalie K.  Rumor has it this duo of Grub-lovers would drive five hours to Las Vegas, not to gamble, not to shop-till-you-drop (which on a side note, what wouldn't you do to have that show back on TV?) ... not for any of the craziness sin city has to offer, well ... except for the closest Cafe Rio between Los Angeles and Salt Lake City.  But bless the gods that be, that this Utah based bastion of GRUB has brought its insanely-rich flavors to LA's South Bay.  At a high level Cafe Rio looks like your standard, assembly line Mexican food joint.  But as you're placing your order and there's a woman on the other side of the counter hand pressing and cooking fresh tortillas ... you realize it's go time.  On our GRUB-journey, our crew brought some diversity ... Tacos barely able to contain the flavor-bomb about to explode.  Check.  A couple quesadillas loaded with melted cheese and marinated shredded beef.  Double check.  A monster-sized salad topped with tortilla strips and piled onto a flour tortilla the size of a large pizza ... Check mate.   Adding to all that was The Good Grub's personal selection, the carnitas burrito, and it was a table covered with all things right in the world.  A couple of pointers for your journey to the Rio ...  Salsas, go for the green one ... it's officially our new favorite color ... Simply put, it's amazing.  Guacamole?  Of course ... it's probably made from avocados hand-massaged straight from the tree.  And let's just say when someone asks if you want cheese and salsa spread on top and sent through a gauntlet of fire ... just go for it.  So seriously...  What are you waiting for?  Cafe Rio's definitely got some good GRUB, and it's definitely time for you to get some Cafe Rio.
