![]() So I always knew Alaska was big. I mean, they couldn't even fit it properly on the map. It always had to be cropped and thrown down next to Hawaii. But I had no idea it was five times the size of Texas. And more importantly, I had no idea its hamburgers were five times the size of insanity. And so we bring to you our journey through Alaska, the last great frontier ... of GRUB! We're going to do a double dip on this post ... no big deal ... just a little five pound caribou burger from our friends at West Rib Pub and some fluff-n-nutter ice cream from Hot Licks. Wait a second ... back it up. Five pound burger? Yes sir. And did we eat it all by ourselves? Chaaaa? I mean it's clear we like GRUB ... but we don't have a death wish. When this beast finally gets brought out from the kitchen and you make eye contact with the humungo double patties of caribou (now you know you're in Alaska), 12 thick slices of bacon, grilled strip-upon-strip of Canadian bacon, a heaping helping of American cheese (couldn't let the Canadian's get too much of the glory), and all the usual fixins you'd find on a burger ... times five ... you start to realize something's wrong as everyone in the room turns to look at you, light bulbs star going off, and you get the sinking sensation you're entering into the ring against the Mike Tyson of GRUB ... and that dude is nuts. Luckily we brought back-up ... Ben S., Justin B., and Daniel S. fought like warriors. We had to, we were in the GRUB battle of our lives. And let me tell you something, bigger is better. I don't know how they do it, but they imagined to breed a traditional hamburger with Andre The Giant and turn out a downright delicious feast. But who could stop there? Who couldn't top it all off with a little ice cream? Were you listening to anything I was saying!! It's freaking five pounds!! Come on people this is a double dip GRUB, thankfully the ice cream place is in a town about 275 miles away ... otherwise who knew if we could have resisted the temptation. And without further ado, we bring to you the second part of our epic journey through Alaska ... Hot Licks' Homemade Ice Cream. First off, did you know that interior Alaska can reach a hundred degrees in the summer time? Well I say bring it on if it means a scoop at this ice cream emporium. But which flavor to choose from? Maybe a little huckleberry? A little black forest swirl? As soon as I saw the board of flavors, the choice was easy. Say it with me kids ... 1) Fluff- 2)N- 3)Nutter ... and that concludes today's lesson. Do you really need more than some vanilla ice cream, mixed with peanut butter, and the glorious taste of melted marshmallow? Well, you could always dip it in chocolate ... So sit back, enjoy a couple of homemade scoops, and soak it all in. Who needs the towering Mt. Denali? Who needs the giant, pristine ice glaciers? For us, the GRUB would have been worth the trip alone ... and with that the journey continues. Add Comment |
